Monday, August 17 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Color and Weave Sampler Scarf

Description: Learn to get outstanding color pattern effects using a rigid heddle loom.  Make your weaving look like complicated patterns with very little effort.  If you are already familiar with the rigid heddle loom, this class will help you master more advanced techniques.  If you are a new weaver, the technique is not too difficult to learn.  This type of weaving is portable, easy and fun and can add variety to your fiber abilities.  This workshop introduces students to color patterns on the rigid heddle loom.  They will learn how to control their shuttles for smooth edges.  During the day we will warp the loom and weave a sampler scarf that teaches several color patterns.  Along the way, we’ll discuss various techniques for rigid heddle weaving and finishing techniques.

Note: Instructor will provide rigid heddle loom for class unless you wish to use your own loom.

Materials List: Rigid heddle loom with 7.5 or 8 dent reed, clamps, warping peg, threading and sley hooks, 250 yards each of worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors.  (Think white and black.)  Yarn should be smooth, at least 2 ply, strong and not hairy.  2 stick shuttles or 2 boat shuttles and bobbins, tape measure, scissors, tapestry needle, cardboard tube from inside a paper towel roll, 2 brown paper grocery bags.

Maximum Class Size: 10 Participants

$100 (includes lunch)

Monday, October 26 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Zig Zag Scarf: Beginning Pick Up Technique

Description: If you already know the basics on your rigid heddle loom, you can learn to create beautiful lace patterns using pick up sticks.  The intricate patterns can be achieved with relative ease.  You will learn to use the pick up sticks to manipulate the warp threads and complete a beautiful scarf that others will admire.  This workshop introduces students to the process of using pick up sticks to manipulate the warp and weft threads to create patterns in the cloth structure.  Additionally, we will discuss how to use a slow color change or hand painted yarn to its best advantage as a weft.

Note: Instructor will provide rigid heddle loom for class unless you wish to use your own loom and pick up sticks.

Materials List:  Rigid heddle loom with 7.5 or 8 dent reed, clamps, warping peg, threading and sley hooks, 1 pick up stick, 1 stick shuttle or boat shuttle and bobbin, scissors, tapestry needle, cardboard tube from inside a paper towel roll, 2 brown paper grocery bags.  150 yards worsted weight solid color yarn for the warp, 200 yards worsted weight yarn in a slow color change.  Yarns should be at least 2 ply.
