Stitch and Needle News

Hi, It's been a while....
Here is what we have on schedule for the next few months. Get ready there is a lot happening!

First off, our retreat was a huge success. Meredith taught our wonderful mermaid. I do have three extra kits if anyone would like to purchase one. $650.00 includes the canvas, stretcher bars, threads, embellishments and stitch guide. 626-793-5217
Our plan is to have our retreat in Santa Barbara next May 5-8 or 19-22. I am still firming things up.

We are having the Embellishment Squad back here next September 14-17.
If you aren't familiar with the Squad this is a four day needlepoint embellishment class taught by Meredith Willett, Deborah Steihler, Tony Minieri and Suzanne Howren. I will send an email when it is time to sign up.

If you haven't been to this event before here is the scoop.
You customers bring in your unwanted, never going to finish, finished but don't want it anymore needlepoint and knitting items by October 1.
We will price them cheap.
You come to the shop with cash or check on Sunday, October 9 and buy other people's "Trash". It is now your "Treasure"
All the money raised will go to Young & Healthy in Pasadena. This is a non profit for the San Gabriel Valley that gets kids medical help of all kinds. They also work with the schools to teach healthy living. This is going to be a great sale. We have a ton of canvases and knitting yarn!!!

Color Blending on the loom

Class Level: Advanced Beginner

Description: Learn the secrets for blending the colors in your weaving.  Have you looked at some of the gorgeous color packs so many dyers are making and wondered how to best use them in your weaving?  By using one of those color packs and the techniques you learn in this class, you can create a piece that blends the colors beautifully!  Colors will be mixed in both the warp and the weft so the gradients flow together almost invisibly.  This technique can provide the basis for many future exciting projects!

Materials: color pack of sport weight yarn with 4 - 5 colors, 80 yards each color ( the Wonderland Yarns packs work very well), and 100 yds. or so of another solid color - yarn must already be wound into balls, 10 - 15 yards waste yarn (worsted weight acrylic works best), measuring tape, manila file folder, tapestry needle, scissors, cardboard tube from inside a paper towel roll, 2 brown paper grocery bags,  Rigid heddle loom with at least 8” weaving width, 10 dent reed, threading/sley hook, warping peg, clamps

I told you there was a lot going on!!
We hope to see you soon. By the way they will be doing road work on Huntington Drive until December. We have plenty of parking behind the store. The awning in the back says The Andover Shop.
Feel free to park back there.

Thanks for being our customers.
